Get Involved: Volunteer
Volunteering for the animals is some of the most rewarding work you can imagine.
Through our volunteer program you can get hands on experience helping to care for our furry friends by walking dogs, socializing cats, bathing pets, assist in fundraising, help out in the office, and much more.
Pawprints is a youth program we began last year. Local youth came into the shelter and learned about animal care, behavior, and more.
The program was such a huge success that we plan on conducting Pawprint workshops again this summer.
As soon as school is out we'll get the ball rolling on workshops for the summer.
This and That
A Rescue Story
by Karol Wilcox
"I have been in the rescue business for many years and I try to have a hard and fast rule. I do not take home animals to keep as I spend more time at the shelter than at home sometimes and feel like I can't give them the care or I could easily become a hoarder."
Small shelter big accomplishments: CHS-PAWS in Hayti
"Since opening in May 2013, the organization has answered over 400 animal neglect complaints. During the summer heat wave they spent countless hours out watering animals all over the county. When winter storms hit they offered dog houses, bedding, and assistance to pets in need. Their “Helping Hands” program helped feed over 600 animals and the spay and neuter program provided certificates for over 150 animals. Additionally, emergency veterinarian care was provided for more than 50 of the area’s pets.

We are proud to be Petco Partners and pleased to announce that we recently received a much needed and appreciated grant for our Helping Hands program.
In addition, we hold adoption events at the Cape Girardeau, Mo. Petco store every second Friday of each month from 10:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.
There, we introduce our wonderful pets to the public and make them available for adoption to folks who might not be able to get down our way in Hayti.
These events gives our pets the added exposure needed to get them into loving, forever homes. We have adopted out dozens of pets at the Cape Girardeau Petco.
Please shop your local Petco store. They are all about the animals and provide us with so much in the way of supplies, funding, and advice and their staff is always so helpful and friendly.
We use Facebook to make almost all of our announcements. Please like our page and keep up with our latest happenings.
We recently rescued three momma dogs and their litters. The pups are still much to young for adoption but expect to start adoptions for them in about 8 weeks.
Watch our Facebook page for progress as they grow!
